We are situated in a magnificent scenic mountain area and below are details of our on-site activities and information about the local area and nearby facilities, tourist attractions, weather & climate: We want you to thoroughly enjoy your experience with us and do not charge for onsite activities, with the exception of the Quad Bike hire. See our list of on-site activities below: Walking, Hiking & Mountain Biking: For your enjoyment there is a gorgeous mountain road where you can hike, walk or mountain bike. With minimal traffic, you can enjoy the wonderful 45km walking/cycling route along the De Hoop road whilst taking in your amazing surroundings and enjoying the clean, fresh mountain air.
Quad Bike Hire (4x4): We have two quad bikes available for hire @ R150 per hour (longer periods are negotiable) or you are welcome to use your own quad bike (silenced bikes only).
Waterfall/Dams/Swimming: It can get pretty hot here in the summer and you can cool off by having a swim in the cool mountain pools, waterfall or dams. Bird Watching: For bird lovers there are some amazing species to be seen. Home to the black eagle and our national bird the blue crane are frequently spotted here. Game Camp: Take a walk through the Game Camp and spot the Springbok, Eland, Gemsbok and Zebra as they graze. We also have a wild horse who likes to hang out with the Zebra. Farm Animals: As we are in a farm setting, we have a flock of sheep, a rooster and his hens, a gaggle of geese, a couple of peacocks and of course cats and dogs. Back to Top of Page The town of Uniondale is situated just 30km from your destination and perfect for an afternoon drive through the Uniondale Pass to the little town. It has its own Hospital and medical facilities, Police Station and Post Office. Absa, Standard and FNB Banks are situated on the main road. Petrol and diesel are available there. There is also a "Foodzone" and an "OK Bazaars" shop, should you want to stock up on basic supplies. For history enthusiasts there are 5 Forts from the Boer War which were manned by British Troops & Town Guards from 1900-1901. Two can be found on the hill above the town, 1 East, 1 West and 1 North. The Uniondale Market is also a must - ask your hosts for dates and times! Held, most recently, at the Uniondale High School with music, konka's (firepit), potjiekos, afval, goulash, boerierolls & a hamburger stand, gluwein, waffles, ice-cream & all the trimmings. Homemade toys, jewellery & crafts, plants, books and much more, will all be there. Come along and enjoy this community based initiative, your support is most welcome! We are close to the Prince Alfred Pass an alternative and very scenic route to Plettenburg Bay and Knysna on the Garden Route. The Baviaanskloof, Meiringspoort and the Langkloof are all within easy reach. We are seasoned hosts to riders of the Karoo to Coast MTB Race (click here for K2C 2010 photos) and the extreme Trans-Baviaans who use our gravel roads and paths to practice on in the build up to the races. The K2C route starts in Uniondale and ends in Knysna, navigating the challenging Prince Alfred Pass. It is held September and is growing in popularity year on year. The Trans-Baviaans, usually held in August each year, is a 24 hour mountain biking marathon. It starts in Willomore (about an hour and half drive from us) and takes place across the magnificent Baviaanskloof Mega Reserve. It is not only the longest single stage MTB team event in the world but also one of South Africa’s premier mountain biking events. Bo Kouga Mountain Retreat is located in the Western Cape Province of South Africa (Map of the region ->this link opens in a new window). Summers are warm to hot with mostly cool evenings. Occasionally we enjoy winter snowfalls sending icy cold weather up north. We also enjoy winter rainfalls and much of the Cape weather. Bo Kouga is the ideal getaway should you wish to get away from it all. Relax, breathe and find yourself again. A great place to just sit and reflect on life, meditate and be at one with nature. At Bo Kouga we encourage you to enjoy the peacefulness and beauty that surrounds you. We respect your privacy at all times. Back to Top of Page
